In deep mysteries of the mind, Fear lies. It must be some kind of natural instinct in the human "survivability"-system that tells us that together we have a greater chance of surviving. Also reproduction is what every biological organism strives to, there fore intimacy and the increased production of "well-feeling" hormones is a positive "helper" for life to survive. Although i do not claim that intimacy leads to reproduction, i think it "helps" in the process of learning what the human body is capable of. This is purely biologically seen on the thing.
Psychologically i think that we Humans are afraid of being alone, of fighting alone in this world filled with wickedness and struggles, and therefore need the feeling of "not being alone".
